“We bought timeshare in 1991 and were very pleased with the holidays that we had. On account at our age we want to get out, so they recommended and exit programme to buy in Club Paradiso resort and promised to sell within two years.

ITRA forum: ‘Misled’ into purchasing a timeshare
“I am very disappointed with CLC as I feel we have been misled into purchasing a timeshare with them, I have never been able to actually get a holiday due to no availability throughout the year.
ITRA forum: We wish we had never become involved with the timeshare industry

“We bought our first timeshare in 2001 at elite Fuerteventura, we were promised a wonderful holiday experience, maintenance fees over the last ten years have increased every year, we are very disappointed with the total outcome.

Our experience has left us with dismay, where now we are in debt management, re: maint fees, if we do get an apartment we want its very unusual, there is never anything we ask for, very unhappy with our timeshares, plus we cannot resell them as no one wants them anymore, we are currently behind with our maint fees in elite by 3 years, we are paying at the rate of £60 per month.” By M.

“False Sales - When we first bought the timeshare we were told that we would be able to exchange weeks for our dream holiday destinations ie, Australia, New Zealand, America, Canada, Maldives etc. Which we would not normally be able to afford. These places were never available when we tried to book them.
ITRA forum: We were duped out of half of our life savings
"Whilst on holiday in Puerto Rico G.C in 2008, we were stopped in the street and taken to Arguineguin to a 5* hotel, taken to a table given a drink, and left for a short while.

We were joined by four men, they were telling us about the benefits we would get for ourselves and our family, and when we die it would pass on to our children, as well as the lifelong holidays anywhere in the world, we would just have our flights to pay for. They gave us a cruise & stay and four holidays at specified resorts.
We did two resort holidays that turned out to be promotional holidays, we have never had any other holidays with them, and received nothing for the £8,500 we paid. G.C. was the main man, along with the other three men.
We were duped out of nearly half of our life savings, and received nothing from Voyager, we were tricked and badgered out of our savings!
Any help ITRA can give us would be most appreciated.”

ITRA forum: We would never have bought in the first place
“We attended a presentation in 2000 at Wychnor Park. We believed that membership would buy us 5* holidays and we bought 6000 points.

"We subsequently purchased a further 4000 points in 2001 believing that 10000 would be enough for the holidays we wanted. We later found that wasn't really the case but we were not in a position to buy more points so we have done our best with what we have.

We understood that annual maintenace fees would have to be paid and that these would probably increase over time. We were lead to believe that membership was dependant on the payment of annual fees and that if we didn't pay then our membership would cease. By 2011 we found ourselves in the position of not being able to afford maintenance fees, which over the past few years have increased alarmingly, and still afford to go on holiday, indeed on several ocassions we had been forced to pay through Interval International to go to Diamond Resort Properties. At this point we contacted Diamond resorts and told them that we would not be paying maintenance fees for 2012 so would be relinquishing our membership. We said that we were not looking for any repayments, however we were informed, for the first time, that we couldn't do this and must continue to pay until the age of 75, or, until we were declared bankrupt! As a last resort I contacted the CEO directly explaining our position - we received a very cold one sentence reply saying that we would have to go through bankruptcy. Had we known any of this before we bought we would never have bought in the first place!” By Mr and Mrs W
